英國金融時報的週末版美學生活專欄作家Tina Gaudoin ,在題為 “ What a difference a diary makes ”中, 提到全世界只有英國和台灣把日記本當行事曆使用,日記本應該用來記載思想的,如奧古斯都的沉思錄。Gaudoin 為何把台灣與英國列為唯二的國家,不得而知,也許只是用來形容台灣是現代化工商忙碌的社會。當然文章是生活隨筆,什麼原因或許也不重要。不過,她說的沒錯,我的家人和辦公室同事,每個人幾乎都是將年末收到的日記本,當新的一年行事曆使用。原文如下:
I say diary, you say calender- and you would be right. Because almost anywhere other than the UK and Taiwan, a diary means the diarising of thoughts, a la Marcus Aurelius, who kicked the whole concept off with his Meditations ( or notes to self ) between 161- 180AD.
文中提到的 Marcus Aurelius 全名是 Ceasar Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. 一般譯為奧古斯都大帝。



Hanching Chung Augustus (‘venerable’) 是尊稱,所以除"奧古斯都大帝"本尊,他人的,Marcus Aurelius (中文採用; 日本: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus )一般不譯出,
