補充說明，Timothy Brook(卜正民)在 "第八章 結語：人非孤島"也展現他的世界眼光，最末寫3人之死，除傳主維梅爾之外，另有寫《長物志》的文震亨，馬尼拉總督柯爾庫耶拉。

In John Donne's writings, the term "
translation" primarily refers to a metaphorical spiritual transit or transformation, specifically the soul's transition from an earthly life to an eternal afterlife. 
This concept is most famously articulated in his prose work, Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions, particularly in the 17th Meditation (the "No Man is an Island" passage). 
Key Meanings of "Translation"
  • Death as a "Translation": Donne views death not as an end, but as a "translation into a better language". Just as a text is translated from one language to another, a human soul is transferred from the physical world to the spiritual realm of heaven. He employs complex metaphors (conceits) that force the reader to follow the "crossing" of the signified (the meaning) as it moves between different levels of interpretation. 
Essentially, for Donne, "translation" is a central metaphor for the Christian concept of a purposeful change, moving from a transient, physical state to a permanent, spiritual one in the presence of God.
