人很容易遺忘，必須常溫故。昨天談胡適之先生引魯迅譯的尼采。

今天查一下我1977年在英國買的企鵝版，發現我在引文處有畫線，寫記號：

In truth, man is a polluted river. One must be a sea, to receive a polluted river and not be defiled.

Behold, I teach you the Superman: he is this sea, in him your great contempt can go under.

......我又願中國青年都只是向上走，不必理會這冷笑和暗箭。尼采說：

「真的，人是一個濁流。應該是海了，能容這濁流使他乾淨。

「咄，我教你們超人：這便是海，在他這裡，能容下你們的大侮蔑。」(《札拉圖如是說》的《序言》第三節)

縱令不過一窪淺水，也可以學學大海；橫堅都是水，可以相通。幾粒石子，任他們暗地裡擲來；幾滴穢水，任他們從背後潑來就是了。

還沒讀過 《風雨絃歌—黃麗松回憶錄》。不過，《陳維昭回憶錄—在轉捩點上》(台北：聯經，2009)是很值得一讀的書，它真的很平實地說了一個成功的台灣人故事。聽了他參加北大百年校慶之後要去見江澤民，看北大將港澳台的校長安排在車子末座，就憤而離席了。

陳維昭醫師在臺灣大學的12年校長任期，成績斐然，他應該是校史中最有貢獻、影響力的校長。(我因為過去近18年住在臺大校園附近，很關心臺大的發展，並與陳校長有數次近距離的觀察，所以有些立論的根據。一次是首位大學教授 (University Professor)的慶祝酒會上，雖然葉教授很快就退休，不過我相信陳校長用心良苦。另外一次是宣布網路廣播的獨特技術，雖然我很可惜台大沒設自己的網路電台/電視台，不過後來在開放課程上領先，這些科技基礎有功.......我以前經常笑臺大農學院多系的改名，書中說那些系真的做出許多名符其實的突破......)

The character representing the novelist's own self tends to be sensitive and observant but devoid of activating core that distinguishes a truly functioning and active person from a mere sst of traits. Compare the diaphanous web that id Flaubert's Frédéric in L'éducation sentimentale in comparison with the substantiality of, say his Jacques Arnoux ! And when Robert Musil calls his hero a Mann ohne Eigenschaften, perhaps his diagnosis is wrong. Perhaps all his Ulrich possesse are  Eigenschaften.

“There is a great contrast between the solidity of stone and smoothness of steel,” Patricia Urquiola said about the marriage of natural and industrial materials in her new bathroom collection for Salvatori. The 22-piece group of fixtures and accessories, called the Small Hours, treats the chamber as an indulgent retreat. The name invokes the late night or early morning stretches when everyone around you is fast asleep and the world is yours to enjoy privately.

“It’s your own time,” said Gabriele Salvatori, who leads the company.

“Believe me or your eyes,” inspired by a famous Marx Brothers quote.

Ms. Urquiola described the production process as “slow and passionate.” Humor was also involved. The mirrors can be ordered with the words, “Believe me or your eyes,” inspired by a famous Marx Brothers quote. The impish gesture, Mr. Salvatori said, is reminiscent of a message scrawled in lipstick across the glass.
